Are you Driving Someone Else's Car?

"A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me| Hanging out the passenger side| Of his best friend's ride trying to holler at me..."

Am I the only one whose mind went straight to throwback TLC zone after reading the title of today's post? #90sBabiesUnite. At any rate, this post is not exactly about "a guy who thinks he's fine and is also known as a buster". However, sometimes we do... each one of us... have our own way of thinking we have life all figured out or feel pressured to figure life all out on our own when in fact, there is a greater, wiser being who has already ordered our steps.

You, also like me, probably have a perfect driving record, right? So the pressure is off. Well that is until your morning jam session to *insert favorite Gospel album* is interrupted by a loud crunching sound. And there you have it, your perfect driving record, your weekend of no public transit, your job, and future career endeavors have all been flushed down the toilet. Basically, your life is over (just kidding). Of course, your first car accident EVER happened when you were driving someone else's car.

Which leads me to ponder, how often do we try to drive someone else's car, serve as our own navigation system, and attempt to insure ourselves all on our own? The Word proclaims, "or do you not know that your body is a temple[a] of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?" and it seems extremely applicable. Our bodies are temples and we were made in His image but how often are we fooling ourselves by being in control of our Worldly lives and forgetting about our Divine responsibilities.

Perhaps we should consider this: our jobs, our friends, our extra-curricular activities, our work-ethic, our commitments, our prayers, our discipline, our faith[fulness] the way we love [others and ourselves] and even our bodies are not only a reflection of who we are but also a reflection who we are in Christ. Our lives were given to us and we are responsible for using our gift and talents to glorify God! We aren't perfect and our reflection will not be either. But, if we are the SALT of the Earth, we must do our best to be in the World and not of the World. Lest you forget, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.

So, I challenge you to pump the breaks when you're driving someone else's car, serving as the navigation system and attempting to insure yourself all on your own. It won't be easy, but some serious self-reflection will probably reveal that you are driving someone else's car in areas other than just your spirituality.

  1. Try asking God to reveal Himself to you instead of telling Him the plans that you have for your life

  2. Learn to listen to understand your loved ones rather than simply listen to respond to them

  3. Remember that sometimes you will have to forgive before you even receive an apology

  4. Your commitment[s] to God will grow to be stronger than your relationship with any family member, significant other, friend or boss

  5. God is always willing to hop in the driver seat. Will you be a good passenger?

Remember,

I have love for you, but God’s love is perfect love. You were created in His image!

XOXO
