Spiritual Bliss

bliss

Have you ever been on an early morning commute to work [#WMATA #IsSafeTrackReallySavingAnything?] and to no fault of your own, your eyes land on “the couple”. They are no ordinary pair. And you, like all bored people on their morning commute ( or am I the only one who does this? #onlychildproblems #IAintSorry), decide to play detective...

Their interlocked fingers are the first clue, they’re not just holding hands, their fingers are interlocked—an obvious indicator that they are a new couple, right? He is holding her bags, he lets her enter the train first, and makes sure she’s comfortably seated before he sits—this is the second clue and an obvious indicator that he’s caring and attentive.

They’re having a deep conversation; her lips are moving at the speed of light yet he nods after ever other word or so. When it’s his turn to contribute to the conversation, she does the same—she shakes her head a few times in disagreement but doesn’t ever seem angry. More so invested in what he has to say. Clue number three highlights that they don't just agree to disagree rather, they agree to understand one another. Their fingers remain interlocked the entire time. And just before their stop—which they almost missed because obviously the conversation was just that good, you catch a glimpse of their left ring fingers: the final clue —wedding bands! Well DUH—they are in Marital Bliss.

Marital is defined as of or relating to the married state and Bliss is defined as complete happiness. If we interchange marital with spiritual we can basically define where I am right now on my spiritual journey with Christ.

I am so in love with God that whenever I take the time to read or listen to what He is saying, I am completely invested —it's just that GOoD(like what I did there? lol) . Right now, I am not in a place to argue with God, what He has taught me or how he teaches me but I do my best to understand. I don't necessarily feel the need to challenge God or His word, I am just so satisfied with what He has given me that my focus is on understanding and being a better steward of what I already have. My fingers are interlocked with Him.

Now, don't get me wrong, my relationship with Christ is not always easy. Like most long-term relationships, it is a journey. Sometimes the messages I am sent are nothing close to what I want to hear nor do they come exactly when I want to hear them. But, most often this journey is inexplicably amazing.

This relationship is the perfect mixture of unconditional love, peace, happiness, my favorite laughing partner, and favorite prayer partner all wrapped up with a [pink] bow. I have found that effective two-way communication is certainly the key to success in this relationship. And whenever we (The Big G-O-D and I) have a communication issue, it is usually a result of a poor connection that is my fault because I am not completely focused on God, His word or His teachings. But as soon as I open or listen to His Word again, I fall back into that spiritual bliss love with Him.

Here are a few examples of scriptures that just give me that butterflies in my stomach, a this is my first real love, feeling when I read them and realize that He wrote these words just for me [and you too].

  1. Psalm 139:13-14 (NRSV) For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

  2. John 3:16 (NRSV) For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

  3. Proverbs 2:1-6 (NRSV) My child, if you accept my word and treasure up my commandments within you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding if you indeed cry out for insight, and raise your voice for understanding; if you seek it like silver, and search for it as for hidden treasures—then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;

  4. Philippians 4:13 (NRSV) I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

  5. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NRSV) So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself,[d] not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

  6. Proverbs 4:23 (NRSV) Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

  7. Romans 5:8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

BOOM, the number of completion.

Remember,

I have love for you, but God’s love is perfect love. You were created in His image!

XOXO
